Why 1978-1982 Corvettes are the coolest looking.
Although the engine performance was no 69' vette. And chrome shine looks better than rubber, you just cannot mistake the thing that makes the 78-82 vettes the coolest.
The front Fenders. I mean they are HUGE! The 78-82 vettes have the best curves on it. Not to mention the 81 and 82's lip on the rear.
Sure the fenders can cause wrecks because you cant see ANYTHING, but it is just SO COOL to look at!!!
Post your responses on what you think of the 78-82 vettes LOOKS (not engine).

The fenders aren't any bigger than the earlier C3s but the chin on the 80-82s make them the most aggressively styled of them all.

I may get flamed for this but it's just an opinion. I'm biased because I own a '79.
First of all, I think all C3s look great as Chevrolet built them. I can't think of any other body style that experienced a 15 model year run and still turns heads today.
Overall, however I think the design peaked in '78 and '79. I think the fast back design was a natural and logical evolution. I don't prefer the earlier tunnel back design, although it was right for the times in late 1967. I actually like the roadster top better. Any C3 with the top down is just awesome.
The '80 - '82s look great but the front looks too "heavy" IMO. A little too "Joanie Loves Chachi" for me. You could tell by the then that the C3 body design had just about reached it's limit. However, the integrated spoilers look much better than the bolt-on jobs from '78 - '79.
Again, my opinion only, they're like A-holes, yada, yada - YMMV.
If I had a '73 or a '81 I'm sure that I'd feel differently.

To me, the grass is always greener on the other side. I've always loved the '80-'82 body style! :yesnod: Now I have one and love it, but I'm slightly envious when I see a chrome bumper Vette. It never fails. If I ever decide to sell the '81 and by an early C3, I'm sure I'll be envious of the late C3s again! I guess I should just be happy that I own one at all!! :D

Sitting in the seat of my '82 reminds me of laying down between the thighs of a healthy woman.

All C3's are the best Styled Vette ever.
However, I personally do not like the fastback look, never have never will.
Second, even though I am not a fan favoriite of the convertables there is nothing hotter or sleeker looking then a topless C3.

. Not to mention the 81 and 82's lip on the rear.
I bought the '80 because it had the looks and was the last (and only year of this style) year Vette without computer controlled engines.
I consider it a C3 3/4's
C3 - 1968
C3 1/4 - 1974 - no more chrome
C3 1/2 - 1978 - rear bubble glass.
C3 3/4 - 1980 - new front and rear end, corrections to suspension and rear end problems.
I love the Coke bottle styling and would not have any other year.
Or maybe a 1968 - 1975 convertible with the 80 front and rear, suspension and interior.

There's nothing cooler than a 78 with a 80 rear spoiler, but I'm bias. Never could figure out why GM didn't make the seat recline, so you could see the stars at night when your getting lucky. :D :D :D :D :D

While there is no such thing as an ugly stock vette. My preference is for the '80-'82 style. I have an '80 and the first time I saw it I was in love. I love those curves. It reminds me of a shapely woman. I really like the fastback look. Baby got back.

I love the lines of my 1981 coupe. Also, love the fastback look.

I like a 79 because of the good fold in the middle seats and the extra room in the back also the curtain that hides the space behind the back seat.
But the best part of mine is no back spoiler to wash and wax and no chin spoiler to hit things with.

I want everyone's opinion on this idea I have kicked around. If you are familiar with the rear PC spoiler, I plan to buy another one and trim the sides so it will look like an integral spoiler. Like the 80 style rear lip. It looks like it flows off the rear bumper. Ideas any and everyone?

Well interesting topic, I remember walking into a mall and seeing the new Corvette displayed
and to my horror there was no spoiler on the back ( 1973 ? can't remeber for sure ). I must have
walked around the car a dozen times shaking my head and wondering who the idiot was
that removed the spoiler.
Now don't get me wrong I still love all the mid seventy Vettes but I really flipped out when I saw
the new 1980 with the spoiler back on the back a new mean looking air dam on the front. I
thought this car was awesome.
To make matters worse a guy I worked with bought one because he still lived at home and there was
no way I could ever afford one at that time.
Fifteen years later I finally got mine ! :D

What got me going on trimming the sides was one day, before washing the car, the dust on the back let me draw an imaginary line on the spoiler. I then pictured what it may look like without the sides. It does look like it was slapped on as an afterthought. Once I looked at the lines I drew, I knew right away it would look alot better than what was on there from the factory. I hadn't considered bonding the spoiler and filling in the seams, however, that may look even better. :yesnod:
