That should work, staggered bolt holes, and if you have the 168 tooth wheel, you're all set

Thanks GDaina! I o have the 168T. I have heard that with some starters I may need shorter\longer bolts. Ever heard this? If so why would they be needed?

Thanks

I'd pass on the second one unless you get a package deal.

Starters are important and you don't want to get stranded because of a cheap part, neither one states a brand name. Unless you know someone that has used one of these, I'd swing for a name brand and pay a couple extra bucks.

I think I am leaning towards this one. They have the best feed back and most thorough description. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-C...QQcmdZViewItem

Course I still keep going back to the second one I posted for some reason.

I bought one from ebay a couple years ago. Paid about $98.00. Came with a 1 year warranty. That's about all it lasted too.

I bought the same starter for my 69 BB stick with 168 tooth flywheel. Different seller (i think) but same starter and required offset mounts. Starter did not fit, when inquiring as to why it was stated back to me by their customer service that it fits only automatics! Very misleading as it states that nowhere, only the detail about 168 teeth which of course my flywheel has. Starter looks correct in everyway but it just won't work.

Good luck and do more homework before ordering. I do not have an answer back yet from their customer service as to what to do with the thing. Will leave negative feedback soon and use it as a paperweight I suppose. Nice looking piece just doesn't work for an early stick appplication or perhaps any for that matter.

Cheers
-Andre

Perhaps, all I can tell you is it appears correct with the staggered mounts etc but just won't fit correctly. Answer from them (different seller but same manufacturer) "we only have the units for automatic, for the early engines Best Regards Erica D.Customer Service"

It is close enough that I could probably start grinding on it and make it fit as the holes are only a 16th or 8th off but I would rather not fiddle with it when someone should simply have exeactly what I need. Hard to tell but i'm pretty sure it isn't interfering with the flywheel but is instead too thick next to the edge of the oil pan gasket area lip. Stocker works but won't last long with the header heat.

That's really, really weird. I've never heard of different starters for manual or automatic on the same size flywheel.

Fatrodder..hmmmm I ordered some stuff for a buddy of mine who's not too savvy w/ ordering in the US or via ebay. I still hadn't received the item after over 2 months, emailed, called..nothing happened. Everyyime I called O got some other girl on the phone (but I suspected it was the same one every time, sure all sounded alike) and the whole thing started all over again. I exploded on the last and hung up, called my CC company, got the money back and all of a sudden they were very active.

It certainly is peculiar, I'm sure it does not make a diffference on a standard old school Delco but on these 502 replacements it appears to. Like I was saying really close but no cigar. Just wanted to bring it up as I am having trouble returning it so far. The pictures of the two units appear identicle. Bought mine off of ebay from TK4Sports@aol.com if anyone wants to look it up and compare pictures. Too bad, inexpensive and a great looking piece otherwise.

look like the one I bought from Pace Parts, but paid 200 bucks, and it fit perfectly.

I have the starter out, and will post the numbers tomorrow.
