Did parking brake rebuild - not that bad, really.
You guys had me somewhat reluctant to tackle the P. brake rebuild, but I didn't think it was that bad at all. I'd rather do it 3 times than pull the driver's side lower dash again! I think the key was the tip on Rowley's site (www.rowleycorvette.com)about compressing the hold-down springs, tying them with dental floss, and then burning off the floss. Also, I ordered Zip's complete SS kit which included a special little tool. All in all, it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected AND I now have a fully functional parking brake.

Go for it, Dukman. Just follow the instructions and have a little patience. Also, you might want to think about ordering the Zip kit now - they have it on sale (the complete SS kit with cables) on their website. I hate to say this, but for some reason, the Forum Restoration site does not have the sale price, you have to go to Zip home site to find it. Good luck!

Good job Tex... don't you love it when something turns out to be simple? Now, why did you have to mention the driver's side lower dash? I think I might be replacing mine soon... :cry :cry :cry

Re: Did parking brake rebuild - not that bad, really. (The Wanderer)
Wanderer - I'll tell you, it ain't no fun. When you do it, be sure and replace all your bulbs and anything else you think may ever go out (causing you to have to do it again). Don't know what your replacement plans are but I would highly recommend trying to find an used original lower dash and dyeing it if you have to. I ordered a repro for mine, paid over $200 and am less-than-satisfied with the quality/fit. I've seen good used ones at Bloomington/Carlisle for about $100. Good luck!
