Pics of C4 seats in my '71
Thought I'd post some pics of the 91 seats I installed in my '71. Not the best pictures. The digital camera is acting up, but it will give you an idea what they look like.
Had to use the C3 seat tracks to lower the seat. Still, a 6'2" friend hits his head, so tall people may want to stay with the stock seats. I'm 5'10" and fit fine.
I love these seats. Very comfy. Not too crazy about the price tag, though.

I'm surprised how good those look in a C3--they look like they belong there. What was the price tag, if you don't mind 'fessing. And how difficult was it to mount them on the C3 tracks?

hey! looks good and the pictures are okay too! i considered this for my 79 but i'm 6'6" and i heard that these seats sit a little higher,so i just re-did my stock seats, all leather this time.my stock seat covers separated between the vinyl & leather pieces.

Re: Pics of C4 seats in my '71 (zwede)
About 8 months ago, when I went to Autozone, the 'vette dude working there told me I HAD to go into the back room to check out a set of C5 seats he had just aquired. I asked him if they were for sale, and told him I had no time ( I had my woman with me). I wondered if they would actually fit into a C3. He told me that if they would fit into a C3, he'd put 'em into his '75.
Next time I went in, he told me he had sold the seats for a great profit, and then he told me that YES they would just bolt into a C3 (he might be FOS, but he claimed that the seat mounting points hadn't changed throughout the years, but zwede says that he had to use the C3 seat tracks for C4 seats)
I've sat in C5 seats, its like you were born into the car, they were so comfy!!
I'm 6'3", so I guess I'll have to make due with either upgrading to the '78 style seats, or going with a racing seat from JAMEX(especially when I get a 6 or 8pt rollcage installed!!)
--zwede great install, but how did you find out you could use C4 seats in your C3??

Re: Pics of C4 seats in my '71 (JB)
JB: I had to take some U-brackets off the C4 tracks and weld them onto the C3 tracks. Also had to drill new holes into the seat frame. Really not that difficult, just takes some time.
Pricetag... I don't even want to think about it... But here goes: $570 for the seats. $860 for mounted leather on new foam. $150 to dye the leather the right color (91 saddle is much lighter than 71 saddle). That's a total of.. <gulp> $1580.

OH MY GAWD!  I thought I spent some $$ on my 72 seats. 300 for a pair of Fiero seats, then another 275 on re-covering. Dude, sit down, take an asprin, have a cold one , and don't think about how much they cost you, EVER!

Mike: You must have just left when I got there. I think around 5:30, stayed until it was done at 8:30. Nope, didn't get rained out. Actually had a decent turnout considering the rain. Maybe 50 cars vs the normal 80-90.
Sd pacecar: Unfortunately (?) I don't drink. Will follow your advice on the aspirin, though. And no, I will never, ever, think of that price tag again.
Tom: Manual. The power seats will not fit (atleast I can't see how). The motors need more room. It would fit with the C4 tracks, but anyone over 5'6" or so would hit their head on the roof.
Bseery: That leather makes my butt as smooth as a baby's... Or maybe my butt feels better since my wallet is so much thinner...
The cost just kind of escalated. I bought a set of dark grey cloth seats thinking they would look ok with the saddle interior. They didn't. Thought maybe I could dye them myself. I couldn't. Wanted to get new clotch seat covers. Not available. Only vinyl or leather. Didn't want to have rather expensive vinyl seats so decided on leather. One foam piece was worn, and it turns out it is very complicated to mount C4 covers on foam. Ecklers has a deal where you get them mounted for no extra cost if you get covers + foam. That was $860. Took a chance the 91 saddle would be close enough to the 71 that it would look ok. Could have gotten the leather in the correct color for a 20% surcharge. turned out the 91 color didn't look right in the '71. Took them to a upholstery shop that dyed them (and did a GREAT job). $150.
So the initial $500 purchase just kept going, and going and... I need that aspirin now.

Your seats look great, I wouldn't worry too much about the cost if your more comfortable driving your car ;) .

Check with me before you make anymore big purchases. I've got a vette connection in Waco for cheap vette parts. Anyway they look very Lazboy comfortable.

Re: Pics of C4 seats in my '71 ('75 383 ElkGrove)
I have a set of C5 seats with full power on both. They physically fit, but the holes aren't close and they sit about 3-4 " too high. It was too good of a price to pass up so I had to get them way ahead of time.
I'm going to cut and lower my floorboards in order to mount them and provide room for the power motor. It's a big job with the car entact but when I have the body off (couple of years away), it won't be too bad. I'll have to get rid of the seatbelt buzzer assembly and I'll have to cut the new carpet (again when I'm rebuilding/customizing the car).
