Default Blueprint/Marshall Crate Engine Update.....

Wicked.........got the rough timing down, and alleviated the high temps with spring adjustments on the distrib. and some distrib. turning!!

Took her out for a spin this afternoon and she started running like crap. Sounded and felt like I was running on 7 cylinders. Brought her back home and noticed that one of the plug wires on top on the distrib. was cracked open.... replaced.....bingo.......

This bad sob will lay rubber for over 100 yards if you want to, and that's at 3/4 throttle!! Freakin' torque for days! I haven't run her over 4000 rpm yet, because I'm still breakin' in! Felt so good about how it ran today, I tossed my wife the extra set of keys, and said "she's ready"!!!! I may never get to drive it again.........(didn't want it overheating on her).

So far, so good, guys, and this company puts out some powerful motors......and for the price, I dare you to find more hp for the money!!

We already know they cover warranty, don't we?

I'm cruisin', enjoying............Fine tuning coming up as I haven't even touched the carb, or really got down into the detail distrib. fine tuning yet!!!

Thanks again for the help guys, this sure is fun!!

Edit: I noticed that blueprint raised their prices about $300 bucks on the motor I bought......Still a great bang for the buck. Check it verses a GM Crate..........(I guess that means all the motors will now be dynoed???????????)

Future buyers are paying for your replaced motor

yeah what ended up being the hammering noise? detonation/timing issue??? since you messed w/ the distr. springs and all...do you have a timing light by now?

Actually, it's a $400 increase, but the add now says, "new vortec heads". Hmmm....

The hammer noise is gone.....I think it was the garage playing tricks on my ears. Oh......and I have always had a timing light, buddy.

I need to pull a few plugs and check them, as I think I may be running lean........(overheating with advanced timing). I did back the idle down to about 800/600 respectively, timing is around 15 on initial with no vac. This took care of the hot running condition.....never overheated, but got up to just about 240*, now it runs between 190* and 210*, with an average of 200*. (160* t'stat with two hole drilled in it.) I still think I'm lean.....gonna check some plugs today, and fine tune the timing. I probably should leave it where it is, but I had to pull out Lars' paper and start reading up again!! lol........

I haven't used a timing light in 20 years. Experienced gearheads time by ear.

They have too much to lose if they do not throw a light on it. It's probably safe to say they set the timing by ear and then verify it with a light. I worked in a garage and the owner would set the timing on the race car without a light. Of course we would throw a timing light on it afterwards, and yes it was always set right. I know I can't do it, most people can't do it, but there are some who can.
