If you don't want to go with full length headers how about shorty blockhugger headers. Then you would only have to have a pipe fabricated to go back to the crossmember. In fact you might even be able to mate the original pipe up to the header with a little welding. Just a thought. Good luck.
Take an exhaust manifold gasket to a machine shop, have them cut a spacer to match the gasket. Install gasket on each side of spacer. I bet it would work fine.

I am using whatever shorty header I can find cheap that can do the job. I found a set of corvette manifolds for 63 bucks after shipping. It is what it is. I am going to run 2.25" exhaust pipe to where ever I may put the turbos.
I dont know if this is the bubba way, or bad for flow, but couldnt you just double up a few gaskets, I have heard of this for decreasing compression by putting two gaskets on your heads, dont know if it would work for exhaust. Dont know if that will get you enough room though. Essentially tossing ideas out there.
