THUNDER sees the light of day....
For the first time since Memorial Day I took the 71 project out of the garage. My heart is still pounding and I'm still grinning. :D I couldn't take it for a real test drive since I still have some tweaking to do on the 700R4, but it was awesome just taking it to the corner and back to the garage.
She's still running a little rough, but I'll take care of that this week while I'm on vacation. Part of it may be that I'm still running open headers. Maybe I can get the exhaust finished this week and I have some mods to do on the throttle and TV bracket, too.
Just had share a good morning.

Nice to hear it's coming together again, can't wait to see the finished product!
I've been working on my project 7hrs per day and the body is finally getting lifted next week. Bumbers and gas tank are out of the car and all it needs now is 10 guys to put the body on the dolly frame!!!

Re: THUNDER sees the light of day.... (Stephen DeFazio)
Yeah Stephen, I was going with cable but couldn't find one long enough to get out of the subdivision. No new pics, though, haven't done anything else to the body lately.
Jay - You're doing what I now wish I had. Good luck with your frame off.
Eddie - Thanks, but this one won't be going any where for quite some time. Still a ton of work to do before it can even go to the paint shop. Besides, come Friday morning it's time to head for Bowling Green! Kingston is not that far, why don't you join us at the Baymont?
Back to the garage.

Life is good when things go your way and you don't loose any apendages  and you don't drop a rotor on your foot, and don't catch your hammer loop from your jeans on the end of your bumper and rip your pants in two and.....yada,yada,yada.
You were over due for a good day Dave.

Congrats on your test drive! It's got to be rewarding after all the work you have put into it! Can't wait to see pics when you get time to take them.
BTW, I'm curious why you decided to swap the hookers in favor of the factory covers with the moroso spiralflows. Have you heard the morosos with a big block and will it be louder than the hookers? I'm torn between hookers and the 69 style covers but am worried about the restrictive chambered mufflers that were part of the factory sidemounts and having room for anything else under them.

Re: THUNDER sees the light of day.... (Marks69BB)
Thanks guys and btw Len, my bumpers are laying in the garage floor.
Mark - There were many influences on my decision to go with the 69 style, including a 2 year old grandson that is my shadow. The thought of him getting burned sends cold chills up my spine. Another reason was the ZL-1 flares front and back. I thought it would be neat to have the body color covers tied into the flares, similar to a ground effects package. As for the Moroso's, I hope to know if that was a good idea or not by the weekend. I expect it to be loud and that's okay, but I don't want a tin canny sound. I bought four, so I could run two on each side and I have the Stahl side out headers, which are supposed to be as good as you can get performance wise. When I made my choices, there wasn't a Hooker option that gave me a full three inch unrestricted system. Now there is a guy on the forum making a spiral insert for the Hooker sidepipe. If the Moroso's don't work out, I may see if he will build something that will fit the 69 covers.
I'm still learning, everyday! :yesnod:

Re: THUNDER sees the light of day.... (LakotasRose)
You're right Java - they LOVE me. :D
2inspire - Talk about smiles per mile, I love the 80 vert w/ 502. :yesnod:
Thanks Rose. Yep, be there Friday. Are you and Alchemist going to the BBQ at the Baymont? Look forward to meeting you guys. I'll be the skinny dude in the red 95 Ragtop. Maybe next year we can all take our sharks.

Dave,
Sounds like a good day! I'll bet you can't wait to drive the beast! After you scare the cr*p out of yourself with the extreme performance of that animal, you'll probably LOVE it! :yesnod: :chevy :yesnod:

Dave you took your car down to the corner with open headers  your a man after my own heart ! I had to start my car in the garage after I got the hooker headers on and everything tied back together, man did it sound awesome ! When I went into the house, my wife said she thought I would get (another ;) ) ticket for loud exhaust because it was louder than the old and it was shaking everything in the house  ! Man your heart must have been pounding :D .

Re: THUNDER sees the light of day.... (Rolling Thunder)
Congratulations on getting one step closer to bringing the beast out on the mean streets. The Moroso Spiral Cores do not have a tinny sound, however they don't do too much muffling either!
Best regards,
Mark

Re: THUNDER sees the light of day.... (ML67)
Mike (MassVette) - I'm really getting anxious to see just what this beast will do, but I know that's a long ways off. This is the first time I can remember being (slightly) intimidated by a machine.
Mike - I hope you didn't scare Noah Michael when you cranked it up. ;) When I cranked mine in the garage, several items fell off the wall.
Mark - That looks like an awesome machine. :D I wonder if having the 2 Moroso's on each side will tame mine down any at all or if it will just cause more turbulance on the flow?
