I am lucky enough to have just received a 1968 corvette 327/300(?) 4sp as a gift from my father. He hasn't run it in about 5 years, but we got it running the other day. I have a million questions, but here is one for today:
The carb he says needs to be rebuilt. Where can i find the holley model number so I know what kit to order? Also do you suggest I have a mechanic or someone else rebuild it? I'm a newbie to fixing cars (but pretty mechanically inclined). If a new carb is suggested, which one? I'm interested in something that can be driven a lot, and something that will just make it run good...
Hollys are pretty simple and there are lots of guys in here that know them really well. Rebuild it yourself, save some $$ and get that warm fuzzy for accomplishing something cool.
And congrats on the car, we need pics
Look at the front of the carb, upper right hand face of air horn (name maybe wrong, but near choke butterfly) you find a List number. Go to the Holley website and you can get the model number from the list number.
the only number i see on it, is 4069MB, and that is near the front corner drivers side. I'm not sure where to find the list number. I don't know what a butterfly choke or anything is, could you tell me the location relative to something else? Also, on the holley website i can't figure out how to search list numbers... but, when i plug in the cars model, it brings up a few carbs, which i think it is the 650 (that is what my dad said it is). I know it is a holly. if it is the 650 holley lists, then the model number is 4175... what type of kit would you guys suggest and where to buy, I appreciate it. I'll try to post pics soon.
