The first gen. ran 10 yrs., the first major change in 63 ran 5 & the next major change in 68 ran 10 + 5.
During C3, so the mid years are between the early ones & the great ones.

They call them MID-Years because they came in the MIDDLE of the First and the BEST! Really, they call them Mid-Years because they are MID-ENGINED..... no I don't think so. Really I love all corvettes just thought I'd throw in a little of this :jester

I'm pretty sure they got the term "mid-years", in the middle of the C1 and C3, when the C3's were popular. Anyways...why would you want to call a "mid-year" a "second-gen". "Mid-year" sounds cooler to me. And it should with the car that goes with the name.

The term "mid-years" came about during the C3 era. Back then you only one three generations the C2, 63-67, fell in the middle of the three, thus the trem mid-years.
But, today with 5 generations, I would guess that the real mid-years are the Sharks. :D :D

THey were named mid-years during the shark era. When the C4s came out they were called late models. None of it makes sense now though. I wonder what the new name for the C5s are? Anyone heard of any good catchy names for them?

At least they are not like the C4's -- which every other car was made to look like. It's hard to tell some C4's from Camaro, Firebird/Trans Am, Mazda, and so on --- too many imitations.
The C1's, C2's and C3's were all VERY distinctive for their time and even now. The C4's and C5's are just areo engineered wedges with no personality --- In my opinion.
Now that I have pissed off most of the members of the Corvette Clan, I will go have my beer and go to bed.
P.S. Thank you in advance for the hate mail.

My wife doesn't know or care a THING about Corvettes. But the ONLY ones she CAN'T recognize immediately are the C-4's and C-5's. This tells me all I need to know about late model Corvette styling.
P.S.
She HATES the C-3's--"too curvy", she says! Her favorite, and the favorite of ALL the other Corvette "know-nothings", is, of course, the 1967 427 side pipe roadster (yawn). :yesnod:  :yesnod:

Re: Why are mid-years called "mid-years"? (MassVette)
While I was recently at a local speed shop with my wife, a guy pulled up in a nice green '65 or '66 convertible.
Funny -- he was having cooling problems, don't know why it was only 114 that day
Anyway I got to talking to him about local Corvette groups and the CF.
After we left my wife asked me if I knew the guy, and I said no. She asked why I was talking to him then. I said "because he is a Vette owner".
She then said -- "that is a Vette? It's soo much shorter than yours. I thought it was an MG or something."
