79 needs Engine work, Good excuse for a new engine/trans, but which one?
I have a 79 thats mostly stock, it needs engine work, but i'm not willing to spend 2g to get my whopping 200hp engine running right. I'm looking towards the big blocks. People i've talked to have suggested the 454s, maybe even a LS6. I have around 8-10g to spend on the entire project. I'm looking for a lot of power I can take to the track (and trash some 5.0 stangs) but also cruise around on the weekends on the street. Street legality and emissions doesn't matter to me in the least though. I'm hoping for FI, a 6spd, and somewhere around 500hp. Is this achievable? What combinations work well in the c3s?
What Engine/Trans/TPI system is optimal without mortgaging the house?
Also, someone told me nitrous works well in the LS6, but i'm weary of killing an engine I can't afford to replace. About how fast (1/4mi) can I go on my budget without and with NOS?

IF you go with NOS think about this
1. you can only run it for 10 secounds at a time
2. its half the price of a descent blower
3. you have to refill it ($$)
4. you can only run 100 hp on a stock engine (upgrading to run NOS)
A crate motor would run 2000 and a tko 5 speed is another 2k I would say get it back running like it should the drop in a nice big motor and manual trans
ZD

You have alot of options first if you have a L82 you could turn that into a 383 stroker or you could
buy a used big block and rebuild it or you could buy a crate engine straight from GM guarnteed
510 HP but that's gonna eat up your fund quickly --> http://www.paceparts.com/ram_jet_502_engine.htm.
If you want the cheapest power you could get 400 + HP out of your own small block if converted
to a 383 stroker, have them biuld it for nitrous add 150 -200 shot and bingo your into 11's.

Go to http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/ They can build you a crate engine with what ever you want.

I've seen that RamJet 502, its fuel injected, 502ci, and 510hp... sounds like fun to me. How well does a 502 fit in there? Also, about how much can I expect to pay for it, sallee didn't have a price (because its not available yet). Someone recomended a T56 trans to me today, how are they for the street/the strip?
btw, its an L48, not L88.
After all that $$$ for a 502 ramjet, how fast can i expect to go (1/4mi)?
How does an LS6 fare? Is it easy to get HP from them?

Saturday a on a rerun of Horsepower TV on TNN, they ran a loaded out 70 Chevelle (air and power) with a Ramjet 502 on their dyno. It put out 345hp at the rearwheels, and something like 480lbft of torque. I think they said the complete engine including FI, HEI and computer was around $8000.00.
But then you'd better plan on another $2000-2500 for all the incidentals that you'd need for this setup (BeCool radiator, spal cooling fans, fuel pump, new front springs, hoses, etc, etc, etc.
Then drop another $4000.00 for a ROD 6speed installation, you could end up spending some serious cash, $14-$16 grand.
Massvette put a regular 502 in his car last summer, he can probably give you a better idea of what it cost.
