I am a new 69 C3 owner. The previous owner had installed a new Edelbrock Carburetor with a 1" spacer resulting in less than 0.1" clearance between the hood and the top of the air cleaner. I am thinking of removing the spacer to address this problem.
What type carb, intake? Could you gain clearance by using a drop down(recessed) air cleaner? Most people use these spacers to reduce heat transfer to the carb, others have claimed performance from them. I myself had one on a truck I bought, and removed it. I could tell no difference. If you do remove it, you may need shorter studs.

Anything I need to be aware of before I go ahead?
Thanks.
I never used one and have had no problems with my 69 L46 w/Holley 650DP
That 'spacer' may be a spreadbore to squarebore adapter to get the new carb to fit on the old manifold. You might have to pull the carb off to verify it. Is the air cleaner actually rubbing the hood? If not, I really wouldn't worry about it too much. Lots of guys have next to zero clearance on their cars.

I have no idea what happened, but ignore all my partial posts, duh??
Anyhow I run an edelbrock carb, intake & 1" phenolic spacer w/ a 4 hole patern is opposed to just an open spacer. The 4 hole gives you more low end torque, when the open style gives you improved top end. To what point, is subjective. But I did notice a beefier low end torque. I have no hood clearance problems. I check this with the kid's play dough. Mold some on all 4 corners of the air cleaner cover and close the hood without letting it latch. Then check to see how much the play dough compressed. Then try it again, eventually letting it slam.
Edelbrock performer EPS intake, Edelbrock 600 carb, 1" phenolic spacer and a drop base 14inch air cleaner. If you have any problems you can get a 2" element from Summit. Good luck
