really sitting the body down on the frame is no big deal. all the body mounts are the same. But you do have to remove the two 5mph bupper supports for the old rubber bumper. The hardest part was making the supports for the chrome bumperettes. If I can get some good shots of the bumper supports I made I'll post them today or tomorrow.
That's what I did, I found a 71 down in texas for $400 with some damage to the rear taillight panel. It came with two doors too. Other than that it was in great shape.
What kind of frame work did you have to do? Someone earlier mentioned the frame is boxed differently between the years.
I didn't change the frame at all. If you want to use the factory bumper mounts for the 68-73 then you will need to do some work. But good luck finding the bumper brackets for cheap.

Ahh, I see the difference now. Hmm...doesn't look like that big of a project seeing as how my car is all taken apart now anyway. I just need to find myself a good butt.

I think I have some old bumper brackets laying around that I might be willing to sell. Not sure where they came from. . .

Thanks man, it was a lot of work. The monza tilt noze from Ecklers was a bear to get right too. And it still isn't right. I didn't have the correct tires on the car when I was putting it together and even though the cowl is cetnered on the car the left fender is about 1" to narrow. Even with the inner lip shaved down the tire will rub on bigger bumps and sharp left hand turns. And now that same side where the 1/4 fender and the hood meet right behind the left tire is starting to turn inward and my body lines are all screwed up. i guess the glass is curing again, but you would think that sitting for 10 years out of the mold before paint would have allowed for enough curing time.
The color was a toss up between electron blue and the 50th anniversery dark red color, but I had already bought the blue when i saw the red. Oh well I can always build another one right.
I could really use some 73 tail right now.........
As promised, a few shots of what I came up with for bumper brackets. I think you'll find that even with the orginal bumper brackets that the newer frame changes won't allow you to use the old bumper brackets without heavy modification.
Anyway, here it goes, this is the left bracket, its two pieces, the upper piece has the posts weled it to it that protrudes through the body, and there are two straps that attach from underneath to support the top piece.
And the right side, which was a little more interesting for me because I had to work around my fuel pump and fuel filter.
Wow great job. I'll bet that took a lot of time on your back, and many trip to the bench or power tools. It's inspiring to see that it's been done and was successful.
I found the brackets. It looks like a few are missing. Let me know if you are still interested.

Thanks for looking Kid Vette. Do me a favor and box those up and hang on tot hem for a few days or so. I looking into finding a donor car or a rear clip for sale. If I don't find anything I'm not gonna rush into the project. If I find a donor it'll probably have the brackets right? Thanks for finding those for me...I'll know more in a few days or so.
Actually I had the gas tank out and I had my dad sitting there with the tools, so i was sitting on my crepper most of the time. The bracket that bolts to the bumper itself was fabbed up on the bench. then I put it in the car and layed out the support riggers.

You're good, experienced in something I may attemp, and living in St. Louis, you're close. Don't be suprised to get an email me from saying, "I'm coming over, we're making some bumper brackets!"
