Metal bar behind transmission above exhausts...
Whilst replacing the exhaust today, noticed that the metal bar that is bolted to the rear of the transmission and has two curved sections above the exhausts is loose. Sorry for the very non-technical description...
What is this part called and more specifically what is it supposed to do?
It seems to be secured with 2 bolts that have the french? washers on...the types with tags you bend over to stop the bolts undoing. Mine must have been bent up whilst still loose!
TIA.

This sounds like the exhaust hanger that extends from the bottom of the transmission an cross member joint. On mine, it's held tight by the bolts from the tranny mount to the tranny. You might want to verify that these are tight first.

I guessed from the position that they might be a mount. Mine dont have anything connected to them.
How do they support the exhaust? I might be missing a part.....

Not sure what year you are talking about, but on my 72, the pipe is supported by a standard exhaust clamp. The threaded loop of the clamp goes over curved portion of your support and then you attach the stamped steel bottom of the clamp under the exhaust pipe. Attach the nuts, tighten and then the pipe is supported.

Its a 75. Will try to get some pics.
Gary, are you talking about the standard U style clamps? Hoop with threaded ends and curved plate....another good non-technical description..

You can just barely see it in this picture. Its between the mount and transmission. A U-type muffler clamp goes on it to hold up the exhaust pipes.
