OK, usually I'd guess power steering fluid is low, but I've already checked. Everytime I turn the car now the steering pump whines like it would if the fluid is low. It also gets hard to steer especially at low speeds. It gets worse and worse the longer the trip. Is my pump going bad?
Sounds like the fluid is going thru the relief valve. Weak spring, sludge, too much resistance in steering system???
Try taking ps tank off and cleaning and inspct relief valve.
When your steering is heavy and sluggish, look into the reservoir, is the fluid milky not clear. That would indicate that you have air in the system.
It is possible to actually have an air leak INTO the system even though oil won't leak out. It can occur on the low pressure side of the system. The return line hose where it clamps onto the spout from the pump reservoir is one location for an air leak like that. Also the nut fitting where the low pressure line connects to the control valve.
