I'm using the K&N 2002 on my small block. Full size, strong, good filtering, etc. plus it has 1" lug on the bottom for a box wrench to remove it. That's my favorite part of it!

Default AC/Delco PF1218

I know I am responding to an old thread but, I am new to Corvette ownership. When I looked up the AC/Delco PF1218 to purchase both at Advanced and AutoZone the online fit check for both of these stores is telling me the filter does not fit my 1977. Instead both stores say the AC/Delco 454 is the correct filter………………. Ecklers says the PF1218 fits my car. Man I am confused. Can anyone clear this up?
Thanks,
Mike

I use the Napa 1794 it's huge you could probably drop 4 of those ac filters in it. The same size filter at Auto zone is STP S373.

Shrinking the size saves the mfgr money...simple as that. And 'more oil' is always better (ALL of the oil flows through the system; none of it 'sits' in the can)...but the important things are:

1) how well does it filter; 2) how quickly does it plug up (and then go into bypass mode which doesn't filter anything; 3) how well is it constructed (if the filter paper ruptures, the oil just passes over it); and 4) does it have a bypass and what differential pressure causes it to open?

I suspect the Delco filter is a decent product. WIX is a quality product. I don't think you can say the same things about FRAM; and I haven't used the Bosch filters to know about them.

With a 43 year-old engine that has 215K miles on it and still operates flawlessly, I'll spend a few pennies more to make sure the filter is good enough to get the job done....thank you very much.

The AC Delco 454 is the listed filter. The 1218 is for truck applications and holds more oil. The 1218 will fit in place of the 454. Unless you put on a lot of miles between oil changes the 454 will work just as well.

The last "standard" SBC I had, was my '96 Z/28 Camaro, which I kept until about 4 years ago. On it, and my prior SBCs, I used the Baldwin B6 filter....
