Thats still cool Tim
I will look into a RW Dyno in my area
The bulders around here want 4-$500 for an engine Dyno..which I guess is understandable,

I honestly would like to know what I am making at the rear wheels

in 1975 horsepower was already measured in SAE if i'm not mistaken...which mean that a '75 is 165 rwhp. still though low...

Im sorry Andy but I have to disagree.

I believe it was measured @ the flywheel
Heres a quote from an 89 which has about 65 HP difference. If both were RWHP...... I dont believe the 75 could get anywhere near the 89

I really want to research the rating methods some more.
It's pretty interesting!

Sorry Andy...Perhaps you are correct... now I'm totally confused

Default More HP Rating Madness - Horsepower TV Chassis Dyno Tests

The 2005 c6 corvette dynoed at around 340 RWHP when rated at 400 by GM. The 2005 mustang V8 dynoed at around 235 RWHP which is rated at 300 by Ford. So, modern ratings continue to be at the flywheel.

Thanks Tim,
Most of the time, if you catch the dyno not in use you can make them a offer. $30 - $50 for three quick pulls is very common. If you are going to tune the car, expect to pay well over that.

BTW, That dyno at RPM scares me, as do most elevated dynos. I feel better about the rollers on the floor.

Freaking cars. No matter what you do, there is always someone else who has more money/time/luck than you do, and you can waste so much trying to out-do each other. I wanna car I can drive to work, enjoy with the roofs off, is unique, and one that I can cruise fast and safe in.

Hello Mr Panic! I see you're in Sorrento, cool! - my family is in Camposampiero near Padua, and a cousin is a policeman there. During a visit, he introduced me to his boss, who was at the time (1994) a top rally driver of some sort. He had a collection of Alfas, all racers, so unbelieveably cool. He took me for a ride in a Mazerati Bi-turbo (I think? It looked like a Lotus, I wish I could remember exactly) - holy christmas crap this guy scared the everliving sh*t out of me, I was pale for a week! The car was awesome and handled great, and he shrugged his shoulders and said that this car was as common over there as a Camaro is over here. I wish I could remember more about it, but I was dizzy and had a load in my drawers

Never take a knife to a gun fight.................these days you never know what someone has under the hood, whether it's a miata or a civic with nitrous. Now you have deisel trucks smokin' everything.

They still don't have the looks of a Vette.

Ratings have always been at the flywheel. Net ratings are with all accessories running. The 60's and early 70's cars don't have that much more hp. Thats why you see all these supposedly "hot" cars running 14 sec quarters. The early cataletic converters were very restrictive killing horsepower in the mid 70's.

i know the c4's are a lot faster just because they are aerodynamic. i have a book of all-year corvette facts, and it talks about the 1984 c4 vette being 23% more aerodynamic then the 1982 c3, and the 82 is more aerodynamic than the 77 which is more than the 73...etc.
but i know that the last c3 and the first c4 pretty much had the same engine, but the c4 was much faster because of less drag.
i hope this is clear enough for all of you to understand lol.

My wife just sold her Saab trubo convertible this week and bought a 10th anniversary Miata (99 model). The car comes with the 6 speed, Bilstein shocks, has lowered springs and the factory limited slip. She's been scoping out super charger kits and rools bars for it.

Since I do track days with the vette she wants to run the Miata which is cool. At the end of the day the Miata is tough to beat when set up right.

My 80 vette with the ZZ4 makes great torque and with the Doug Nash 5 speed it does very well. However at the end of the day I have to spend much more to have the performance of some of the cars like the Miata, Mitsubishi EVO, Subaru WRX etc...

a guy i know just bought a Mazdaspeed 3 (under 25K new). four banger. it'll do 0-60 in about 5.8 and quarter mile at right at 100 mph. all with a 2.3 liter turbo 4 cylinder, 250 net hp, top speed "chip limited" at 155. (my 79 with 3.55 rear is all done at about 110)

So what is the estimated RWHP of a '75 Corvette with a 165 HP FWHP engine?
Sounds like it would barely break 120 HP......

i love the look of my vette but c3 performance suck ***!!! (maybe except big blocks)
I mean how much money ($$$$$) do you have to spend to have something descent?
I can get a 99 eclipse gt or some like that for $3500 and it will blow my vette away...it just sucks, i feel like i bought a beautiful jewel box with....a zyrconium instead of a diamond inside...

C3's suck at handling too. i don't care what suspension "upgrade" you've done. take a C3, C4, C5, or C6 to an autocross and watch the Mini-Coopers run circles around you.

My younger brother has a early 90's Miata that looks bone stock. He worked for an aftermarket place and they needed a donor car to test a new turbo kit. So he paid cost for a turbo kit. That little thing HAULS! He's running about 8 lbs boost. All sorts of suspension upgrades, rollcage, and some computer work. I was in the car with him at a redlight on a highway as a C5 pulls up next to us. He says to me 'Watch this.' We went door to door with a C5 up to about 85mph and that's when the C5 walked away from us. It's a fast little car. As much as I razz him about gettin a real car he got it runnin right.
