Melting Slicks
Headers and good flowing exhaust? If so, I'd run a good single pattern cam,..maybe Comp's Magnum 270H (224 @ .50/.470 lift) or look at other cam makers,..there's more to choose from than Comp. I wouldn't go much more than 225 degrees with 3.08's or you'll be riding the clutch quite a while after stopping at a stop sign, etc.
If you're running manifolds, you'd see some advantage with a dual pattern cam. Lastly, I'm apparently in the minority, but I'm simply no fan of the XE line of cams,..waaaaay too many reports of wiped lobes (Comp and others like to blame today's oil, today's lifters, yesterday's blocks, poor cam cores, etc. etc). But I believe the XE cams break the rules of lift vs. duration. Also, it's no secret they can be noisy.
My minority opinion.

Safety Car
I believe there's many more people that have successful XE cam installs than people that have had unsuccessful installs. Don't be afraid of an XE if that's which one you want. Just remember to take a few extra precautions during break-in and one precaution after break-in.
My solid-lifter XE is alive and well. As a matter of fact, I broke in my cam with the inner valvesprings installed, which is a nono.
