Default Anyone paint their gas tank?

I know that these did not come painted but I am thinking that is may be best option after 35 or so years.

If anyone has painted theirs, what color paint did you use? Does anyone make a paint that is close to the color of the unfinished metal?

I wire brushed all the dust and grime off and spraypainted it with silver krylon paint. Aside from pictures like these, most people will never see the tank anyways. I also used krylon to topcoat the POR-15 I used on my frame, to paint the inside of my wheelwells, and to paint my entire engine compartment. The krylon actually came out looking way better than I expected and is a brand/color you can easily match and touch-up in the future.

I spent a couple of weekends degreasing, cleaning and powerwashing the entire underside to eliminte 25 years of grime. as part of the repaint, I also used silver on the fuel tank and rear differential- and its looks awsome. good luck with yours!

silver (aluminum) rustoleum paint here. It was almost a shame to put the spare tire back in and hide all this stuff.

I've used two things....

There is some silver spray zinc paint in hardware stores for fences and stuff...works really nice.

The other one that looks very nice is the silver Rally Wheel paint. It's sort of a clear with fine metallic particels in it and it looks very close to uncoated.

I used Eastwood's gas tank paint and it looks great.

I installed a new repro Quanta fuel tank in my 68, and just to help preserve it throught the future years, I painted it's outside with Eastwood's fuel tank paint. I think it's called something like "Tank Tone."

Wirebrushed, sealed inside of tank with POR-15 tank sealer, preped and painted POR-15 silver on outside. Turned out nice, just be careful, for some reason the por-15 silver dripped from around the gastank filler neck b/c the paint was captured in the crevices and ran out while it sat to dry.

My tank was in pretty good condition, it had maybe one or two small spots of rust. I wire brushed it and then I painted it with POR-15 semi-gloss black. I painted the straps with silver rustolium(Sorry, I don't have a picture of these/ Edit: Yes I do.).
