Default Guys with 285/275 tires on 18inch rims question ?

Ok my rims are in Coys c5,s... I have 17x8 4 bs going with 245/45/17 on the front ... The rears are 18x9.5 with 5inch bs stock trailing arms 68 vette .

Is there enough room to fit the 285 or is 275 as wide as I can go ? Most that have a 10inch wide rim and 5.5 bs are running 275,s , but with my rim 1/2 inch less and at 5 inch backspace could a 285 work?
Heres the chart off discount tire as to size differences

Tire size 275 ,, 285 Difference
sidewall height 4.33 , 4.49 , = .16
section width 10.83 , 11.22 , = .39
Overall Diameter: 26.66 , 26.98 , = .32
Circumference: 83.76 , 84.75 , = .99

Sorry about the chart it did not line up right the numbers on the left are for the 275 and the numbers on the right for the 285 and the last set of numbers is the size difference

I,ll be moving the parking brake brackets and the sway bar if needed
Comments welcomed

I am running the 275 40 18s. There is not a lot more room but some have put the 285s on. The sway bar I would be interested if you can get that on there.

Here is the side of the car with them on.

I should have enough clearance for the .2" farther in the 285 would be but it seems to vary a little car to car. It might even vary a little with rim and tire mfg.s. E=brake brackets must move.

with Gordon that with the 275-40-18's and stock trailing arms it is real close. when i was running the stock arms and 275's, i could barely stick a pencil between the arm and tire. it was that close

I had 285/40-18's on the back of mine on a 18 x 10 with 5.5" backspace before the flares...they fit fine, have a nice sidewall, look in proportion to a 255/45-17 in front (and funnily enough there for sale right now...replaced 'em with 345/35 -18's )

Here's a shot with 17x11 with 315s 35 and no swaybar 1/4 '' from frame but did slightly rub the inner fender well when going over some humps in the backyard.

Alright guys. Now we're talking. Keep going with those wheel photos and size options. I just don't like the look of the stock wheels and balloon tires. I like the 5 spoke Foose wheels. Anyone have those w/ photos or other options before I spend 1400-1800 on wheels and tires ?

Thanks.

Ok I just put the rim with no tire on the rear . Had to remove the swaybar and emergency bracket . The rear spring fits inside the rim , but I,d like to use a 8inch bolt to lower the rearend down lower that may be a problem depending on how much the 275 sidewall buldges out it will be close also from the rim inner edge to the trailing arm I have about 3/4 of an inch , but it opens up more towards the frame. The rim to the frame rail measures right at 4.5inches .. Im, going with the 275/40 most likely . I still may look into the BFG drag radial as it comes in 265/40/18
Pictures to come soon heres the rims polished c5,s

275x40x18 on 9 1/2" with 5" backspace

Had to fit a thin spacer to be sure of clearance but looks great!
