Default '75 Stingray - Good Choice???

I've got a friend who has an opportunity to trade an '84 with some "history" for a '75 Stingray. The '75 has been redone inside, runs good, has a clean history. Needs to be painted. My friend is a body & paint man, but neither of us knows anything about a '75 model. Any thoughts on the quality, reliability, expense, value? Thanks. :seeya

Is it a coupe or convert? L-48 or L-82? Auto or stick? Color? Price? A lot of things can make a difference on price. Reliability depends on condition of the car, but I don't think a C3 is any less reliable than any other car...just older than most. Generally 75's don't fetch as much money from collectors as earlier C3's, but that can also be a blessing if you are like me and like to modify things . They are very easy to modify. I would take a 75 over an 84 any day. If not for any other reason than you will definitely get more looks in a 75. :D

I think a 75 convertible will be a "collector" in the future since it was the last year of the drop-top shark. If I bought a rubber bumper Vette it would be a 75 convertible, but for now I'll stick with my 71 Convertible. :yesnod:

Sorry, I don't know a lot about the '75's. It is a Stingray, not sure if that constitutes an L48 or L82. It is auto, red w/black interior, 130,000 miles, paint will be "OK" after being water sanded and buffed. :seeya

Well, it's a good color combo. I think you can tell if it is an L-82 if it has an L-82 call out on the hood...otherwise, I think L-82's have finned aluminum valve covers, where the L-48's don't (I have a 69, so I might be wrong). The L-82 is better because it has forged internals and slightly higher horsepower, but you could certainly build an L-48 up nicely. All Vettes 69 through 76 are "Stingrays". Really it's just an emblem...all 68-82's are very similar cars.

If the fifth digit in the Vin # is aT then it came with a L82, 205hp. If it has the original engine then the code on the pad, passenger side above the water pump would be either CHC, CHR, CKC, CRL, CRM, CuD, or CUT.
