Default ZZ383 in a 79

Just ordered a GMPP ZZ383 for my 79 and was wondering if anyone has any intake and carb info that will fit under the stock hood and still provide close to the 425 advertised hp? Has to be electric choke. It's cold here in Canada and my wife drives it...
Thanks guys

I have a 79 L82 and just installed an Edlebrock top end kit that included an Edelbrock Airgap intake with an Edlebrock 670 carb. We went to a drop base air cleaner and were able to use a 3 inch air filter. All of this fits under the stock 79 hood with about 1/2 inch clearance.

The kit was rated at 410 hp for sbc 350.

Hope this helps.

Red Money....which heads did you use? Were they Vortec? I believe you just answered my question about which intake to use on my ZZ4 with the fastburn heads.

The heads were Edlebrock Performer RPM part No. 60899.

Red Money pit, that's good to know, I was wondering whether a performer RPM would fit under a stock hood, but if an air gap will, I know an RPM will.

Keep in mind that we had to use a drop base on the air cleaner. I didn't actually measure the amount of drop on the base but can do if you need that info.

if you don't mind me asking, what was the cost? is there an edelbrock part number for the entire kit? what all was included? are they advertising 410 hp with no bottom end modifications? stock cam. i'm asking because if have a 79 L82 and would like to get more performance but don't really want to pull the engine. low miles on bottom end rebuild, so bottom end is strong already.

The kit was called Edlebrock Power Package Kit, Part No. EDL-2098. The package included cam, Performer RPM heads, RPM Air-Gap intake, gaskets, and bolts. Go to Edlebrock web site and you can get specific detail info. The package cost about 1600 through Summit.

We had performed a leak down test prior to install and determined that the lower end was adequate. The motor was pulled and inspected, turns out the 79 L-82 motor had 4-bolt mains, steel crank and windage tray. I think that was all stock?? Anyway, it was a pleasant surprise.

We bolted everything on, including Edlebrock 650 carb, added headers, full 2.5 inch exhaust, Flomaster 40 mufflers. While motor was out we also replaced the radiator, all hoses and belts, including heater hoses, rebuilt the transmission, new clutch, new starter, new fuel pump.

I have not put it on the dyno to determine actual hp. I can tell you that from a rolling start at 3k rpm the wheels break loose and the fun meter pegs out!

On my 79 I'm running an Elderbrock Performer EPS intake with a Holley 670 Street Avenger on top, drop base cleaner. A 14" x 3" filter will fit under the hood but I ran into an issue where the rear vacuum fitting was hitting the bottom of the carb and I added a 1/2" carb spacer to clear the carb from the fitting. Now I'm using a 14" x 2 1/2" filter.

Thanks guys. I knew an Edelbrock Performer would fit but didn't think an Airgap would. Great info!
