Default Pittman Arm & Pwr Steering Cylinder Brkt

On a frame-off resto, a 73, with mostly new and rebuilt parts, I've installed:

1) the rebuilt original steering box
2) a new pittman arm (no longer have the old one),
3) the original frame bracket that holds the pwr steering cylinder.

Without any other steering components installed, the pittman is hitting the frame bracket just before the steering box is turned fully to the left. I'm 99% positive the pittman arm is correctly phased on the steering box and 99% sure I have the correct pittman arm (SSB part number 2518):

It could be that the steering arms (on the spindle) will hit their max lock-to-lock before the pittman hits the bracket.

Has anybody ever encountered this? Want to make sure I'm not off-track before going further.

Thanks!
Wes

Could you send a photo?...I'd like to compare it to mine. Is it from a pwr steer car?...or manual steer?

With power steering your outer tie rods need to be installed in the holes in the steering arms where the arm will be shortest. Or as the Shop Manual says, "Caution: Do not use the rearward hole in the steering arm with power steering or interference may result."

Thanks guys.

Yes, Bob, forward a photo if you can.

Cal, yes, the Pittman "bows or bends" to the inside,..and angles downward. I'm sure this is correct.

Jim, yes, I'll be insterting the tie-rod ends on the inside holes,..which makes for a quicker steering ratio as well.

I'll hand tighten the rest of the linkage and see if the Pittman still hits the frame bracket for the pwr cylinder.

The input shaft on the steering box will turn almost four full turns, but I believe once everything is installed, the steering wheel turns about 3.5 revolutions, lock-to-lock (the stops are placed on the steering arms).

Can someone confirm how many turns, lock-to-lock, a steering wheel makes on a pwr steering car?

Thanks again!
