Default What is 20W50 dino oil?

I bought a C4 and the former owner said it had 20W50 dino oil in it. Maybe I'm stupid, but I've never heard of "dino oil". It's about time for an oil change and I was thinking of keeping something similar in it. What should I be looking for?

Regular oil, not synthetic.

conventional oil, as opposed to synthetic. Depending on the year, C4s came from the factory with either conventional or synthetic oil. I believe the first year of factory synthetic was with the introduction of the LT1, 1992. Not sure though. The C4 guys will be happy to give you their input on this.

"dino oil" is just slang for non-synthetic oil. Regular old oil, pumped out of the ground, made from lots and lots of dead dinosaurs. I don't know what weight C4s came with as far as oil. I would guess something more like 10W-40.

Thanks for the quick answer. I was thinking that "dino" had something to do with dynamometers, but I couldn't figure out what the connection would be. My 89 valve covers recommend 5W30, but the car has 158K on the motor, so I suspect this is why a heavier oil is now in its place. Since the oil pressures are good with 20W50, that's what I'll put in for the next change.

I think dinosaurs

At the Chicago World's Fair of 1933-34, Sinclair sponsored a dinosaur exhibit meant to point out the correlation between the formation of petroleum deposits and the Age of Dinosaurs, and included a two-ton animated model of a brontosaur.
The original Sinclair Oil Company began marketing the apatosaurus (brontosaurus) in 1930 and now after more than 70 years, "Dino" still remains one of the most recognizable corporate logos in the world.
You must have never seen an old Sinclair gas station logo.

It is just petroleum jargon. Just as sweet and sour crude was determined by the taste originally.
