I'm glad you think it's probably just the gaskets, I could use a little reassurance.

@Jotto: Indeed I'm losing coolant. I have never had to add coolant before in the previous three years and now the reservoir has gone completely empty (twice actually). Also, I have learnt not to wait too long to address problems with this particular car: she made me pay for it in the past

I'll ask the shop for a CO2 check Marck, but it'd surprise me if they have not already done that. Hope to hear from them today.

worship79 - Realize this is an old post, but did you ever find the problem? I have similar symptoms - I also suspect head gasket.
