Default timeing tape

When installing timeing tape on the hermonic balancer does it go clockwise or counterclockwise around the balancer?

There should be a zero on the tape that should line up on the timing mark and wrap both ways from there

hay twin i have a marked cover, I'm just trying to find 32* so i can set the timing while the cams breaking in.

Now i could just get a adjustable timeing light, but the tapes much cheaper! I just need to know what side of tdc to put the 32* mark on

Put the tape on the balancer so the numbers are right side up when you are reading them from the drivers side of the motor...........
TT is talking about the degreed cover that fits over the balancer...much better than tape....

To the right of zero on the balancer. 1/10 of the circumference is 36 degrees. That is where I would put the mark.

If you don't want to spend the $30, use your mechanics rule to measure the actual distance [on your timing scale] between the 0 mark and the 12 degree mark. Multiply that value by 3, then place a mark that distance away from the TDC line on your damper in the CW direction. That will be very close to the 36 degrees you are looking for. You can judge each way a few degrees using the scale distance on your engine for reference. If you permanently etch or scratch the 36 degree line on your damper, you can use it in the futurer, if you need.
