Default sbc tall deck questions

What are the demension defrences in a standard deck small block an a tall deck? How much higher (straight up from the ground) will it move my heads? How much wider will it move my heads? What is the largest CID you can get with out going to a tall deck? I have an F-2 procharger and there is very little room as it is and if the heads move up than I will be hitting the MC. I also have custom made headers with very little wiggle room. I would love to get a 454 sbc short block but it may not fit.

The Dart Iron eagle tall deck is raised .300". The heads will move vertically .212" and each head will move outwards horizontally .212".

my 447 small block that I'm having built will also be built on a standard deck height block.. The only difference is that I'lll have to go with shorter rods. If you want to use the long rods, the tall deck block is required.
You will need to use a tall deck intake or intake spacers for such blocks..

YOU can figure out much of it yourself.
Stock sbc deck is 9.025".
R&L Cylinder banks are 90* to one another.
Each Cylinder banks is 45* to ground.
"Tall Deck" blocks come in different heights ... contact mfg & decide which height you need.

Once you've chosen a height ... brush up on basic trig here:

your smarter to use a tall deck small block. It is not a big deal at all. I'm using .600 taller exhaust port Dart pro 1 heads. My old Hooker super comp headers still clear everything.

Do you use a intake spacer or a special tall deck intake?

This new motown single plane required spacers from the heads to the intake manifold.

The tall deck small blocks use a big block cam bearing size for the raised cam location. These are now common availiable cams as are also the longer cam timing chain or belt systems.

you can run the 6.125 rods with 4.125 stroker cranks. I just use the 6 inch rods with my 4 inch stroker

I'll have to go with the 6 inch rods as my deck height is standard deck height... Where can you get those head to intake spacers?

Darts aluminum blocks all have BBC bearings, the iron eagle is
available with std. or BBC size in both deck heights all bore
sizes and main sizes.

I will have to ask the race shop about the thin aluminum spacers.

Oliver, I would trust the judgement of who ever is doing your rotating assembly kit. I have a 415 kit that used 5.85 rods 3.875 stroker with 4.125 bore. My 427/434 kit was 6 inch rod and 4 inch stroke. both of my kits are for the small 350 main journal blocks

Your 4.125 stroke and 4.155 bore to get 447 is a little different.

dart has intake manifold spacers to use standard manifolds on
there 9.325 deck height block. part # 62210002 for std 23 degree
heads. they have one for 18 degree heads if you need that.

Olivier if I get any kind of vote I wish you would buy the taller deck block
and use the longer rods or at least be able to use a longer rod in the
future.

I'm not worried on how I'll get to 447 cubic inches. I'll leave it up to the shop...

I know you weren't implying anything to the contrary, but to clarify just in case it gets misinterpreted (as I did on a first pass)...

The motown 454 block accommodates all standard Chevy non-tallblock parts. That's why the motown single plane requires spacers on a tall block.
