Making a C3 up to par with a modern sports car....Discussion maybe?
I'm talking Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Z06.
No c5/c6 suspension. That's cheating. Plus expensive.
As for brakes Hydra boost for sure. Although I'm happy with stock brakes wilwood 6 pistons up front and superlites out back would be nice. On stock brakes I would want insulated pistons and front ducts for sure.
Next suspension. We all can't have suspension like TT's. I think Norvals approach nails it for a more budget friendly way to go. I would go with Solid Guldstand offset upper and solid lowers. I would also want to raise my roll center. There is a few ways to do this. The stock a-arms ought to be good. I would want a 1 1/4 sway bar either speedway or with guldstrands kit. I will stick with the stock type front coils and leaf spring rear. I can't afford to get coil overs just yet. And the rear I would fix the rear toe steer.
Steering is another issue. I'd fix the bumpsteer. Stick with the stock Box or get a jeep box. I hear the jeep box feels over assisted though. I would want to get the stock steering a little tighter. There seems to be play in the center link even after having the valve rebuilt [power steering]. That about covers it.
I'd also put at least a welded in 6pt. cage in.
Tires what ever you prefer. I'm sticking with my 15'' slicks. I May try 19" rears and 18" front down the road.
And definitely the engine. Forced induction or a SB2.2, big LS motor. I wouldn't go a big block. The forced induction , SB2.2, or big LS motor makes big power in a small package. The LS motors seem to be the way to go now-a-days. Hopefully I can find a blown one somewhere cheap.
That's my goal
Maybe a decent discussion? Nah probably not
And move this to C3 Gen

go with the SB 2.2, forced induction is nice and all but with a big blower sticking out of the hood and the notorious super charger whine the competition will run for the hills, with an SB 2.2 they might not suspect you have crazy hp numbers. something to think about, as for comparing new super cars to our old C3's not really a fare competition. We might be able to out run them in a line but they can turn at high speeds and stop quickly too. Like Gordonm said money is the solution, good luck and dont blow it all. Let me get this straight. You want to modify stock C-3 suspension, to be on a level with a Ferrari? That right?

lest we forget a Bugatti(EB110 or Veryon), Lamborghini(which on a Muira or Murcielago) and a Z06 (C5 or C6) all you need is heeps and heeps of money. Impossible no, practical no, will we be surprised if he does it, no. Will it break the bank, probably, either way good luck and have fun.

NOt sure about Merlin522, never seen that car go over 40mph. Anyway the power is the easy part, probably the brakes would be the next easiest, it is the suspension ( handling ) that would be hard to get it up to todays supercar level

He did appear to have an honest go at it. Lots of money spent + lots of bad advice = got fed up and sold it before it was done.
Very interesting fellow. Seemed very, very bright, hard working, very determined and, sadly, quite short tempered. No malicious intent from what I could see, but had a knack for stirring people up here.
It is a shame the car never got sorted out. If he'd been more experienced with building truly hi-perf stuff or had the advice of a guru to guide him along, he'd have been able to recognize bad advice and keep the project on track.
I think it is unlikely that he'd have met all of his performance goals . . . but I think he'd have had a ride that, at the very least, would have made grown men cry.

Yes that's me. I have spent a ton of money on the car and I am getting tired of it.
I do have a blown 540 now, one of my goals. I do have fantastic stopping power with the hydroboost and the 14 inch rotors.
Good rubber with 18's all around. True 4 wheel coilovers, huge sway bars front and back/ 1 1/4 both ends. I do have the jeep box and a very tight steering although in an emergency situation I tend to oversteer/ like dodging an animal that suddenly jumps out of the ditch.
A good 5 speed overdrive, a 12 point cage that to my way of thinking is very well done.
Really what else is there???
I have a friend Brian with a very very hot 383 and now a all aluminum 427 and he has all the good VBP suspension parts and he is quick but we have never been able to figure out if he is quicker in the corners or not. I honestly feel I can drive over him in a tight corner. Is it the superior power of the blown bigblock or can I actually corner just as hard as the little small block?
Forgot I do have a modified roll center by having 1 1/2 inch longer spindles and all all bump steer is gone.
I really am running out of ideas and beginning to think I could spend the money on some new hobby.

I feel Merlin did nothing. He paid the bills period. He did not work on the car himself. He never accepted good advice and just blindly went ahead with the build.
He never got the car running properly and a 10 minute drive caused it to overheat.
It never had anything special accept a pair of whipple supercharges and way too much injection. I forget but at least 6 96 pound injectores.
He never sorted the car.
It had potential but not in his hands.

You know there is only one way to tell. Take it to a track and autocross again one. That would be a hell of a show. Norval vs C6 Z06.
