Asking for a Friend
Got my first Corvette...a 1975 and from what I was told from the guy that I got it from it is a Daytona. I never asked him just what that means.... Anyone know the difference between the regular 75 and a Daytona? Any info would be appreciated.....I live in the Sebring area.... Thanks...
I've never heard of a Corvette called the "Daytona". Back in '75 all the factory was concerned about was meeting emissions and bumper standards, not making special editions.
The "Daytona" name as far as a model belongs to Chrysler from the winged Dodge Chargers from '69 NASCAR races. Little remembered fact...the first model called Daytona was a Studebaker from the early '60s.
The guy selling the car could be trying to make more of the car than it is.

Nothing factory............
After a very limited run of them they also offered the body modifications as an aftermarket add on.
the Daytona was available in 1980 and 1981, with a total of five Daytonas built but afterwards when the body kit was available aftermarket anyone could purchase the kits and creat their own Daytona clone but in 1975 there were no real Greenwood Daytona's so if your friend has a '75 Daytona than it's simply a custom Corvette that a previous owner modified on his own because he liked the looks of the kit.
This is one of the real Greenwood Daytona's

here is the history of the Greenwood Daytona's:

BTW, a very good buddy of mine has a '79 Greenwood clone that he further customized with lambo doors (much easier for his wife to get in and out because of her physical disabilities after a major stroke)

his car at Carlisle 2005 at parts of Chip's Choice display
