Desktop Dyno ?
I am about finished with a complete rebuild of my 74 LS4. First time I have been this deep into a motor. I have had a blast and learned a lot. It is rebuilt totally stock with the addition of a Comp XE268H camshaft. Curiousity is killing me.
Could anyone crunch the numbers into a Desktop Dyno for me? Let me know and I will PM the numbers to you in a few days, as I am out of town til Friday night.
The desk top dynos are all on theory. I do not put much trust in them. Kind of like bench racing. A lot of talk but not much fact. On paper I can have an engine tha tproduces 500 HP but to make it actually do that takes some time and tuning.
Someone here will run the numbers but to get true facts you will have to run it on a dyno or the strip will give you some decent numbers.

All of the inexpensive speed shop type engine sim programs make far too many assumptions. Thus, they are only ball-park accurate, at best. In order to get anything near reliable results, you need to fork over quite a bit more money for professional grade software and be prepared to spend a good deal of time getting up to speed with it. If that sounds like your cup of tea, may I suggest Performance Trends Engine Analyzer Pro 3.3. Even then, seek the advise of an experienced performance engine builder to back up your findings before making commitments.

You'd be surprised (or maybe you wouldn't ) on how many crate engine suppliers quote engine simulator numbers for their power and torque outputs.
It would be interesting to see how many real horses are actually delivered in some of the advertised crate engines.
For those that have run their engines on a real engine dyno (or a chassis dyno), it would be good to table some estimated results from the sim packages to determine how good/bad they are.
