What intake are you using that will fit under a stock 79 hood? I order the GM low rise intake (I left the part number at home), but doen't look that "low" to me. Thanks!

I don't know if this will help but I can get you a measurement using a straight edge across the top of the fenders on my 68.

I've got the Fastburn 385 with it's stock intake and a Holley carb.

Let me know if you need this measurement.

Thanks DZ. I am not sure if that measurement will help or not, given the difference in models. Thanks for the offer.

I can't believe that no one else has installed a zz383 with the fast burn heads in a 79. Anyone?

I did the 350/385 Fast-Burn combo. a few years ago on a '78. Just needed a drop base air cleaner. I think it is the same intake, so it should be ok.

Im running the ZZ-383 in my 75 vert. using a Edelbroke RPM air gap manifold. (just about to get the engine started for the first time),Ive read on here that you can use the rpm manifold and it will clear the hood, but if you are using the rpm air-gap manifold like me,yr going to have hood clearence issues.

Both the SB RPM & RPM Air-Gap are the same height & clear the med. rise hood w/ 1 1/4" dropbase filter about 3" & Holley.

I have a GM Fast Burn Motor in my 81 I removed the intake because it was going to be very close. I ordered and Edlebrock performer manifold. Jegs # 350-2116. I have a holley 750 with stock air cleaner just make it. If you are going to use a drop base air cleaner wich I had on first. Use what ever intake you want.
