Default BEST Spark plug wires

What kind of spark plug wires are you all using? I have heard stuff that accel wires melt easily. I have a mallory hei style distributor and hedman headers. I would rather it being an assembled kit and it needs the coil wire.

I just put mine on this weekend, MSD 8.5mm Red with gray boots. I got the kit with one end so I could dress them in nice and neat. Came out pretty nice

No offense, but typically anyone looking for a pre-assembled kit is not in the market for the 'best'.
Where are you having problems with yours melting? The wires resting on headers, the boots? There are other methods to preventing melted wires that are cheaper than buying the 'best'.

MSD's 8.8mm wires are usually 'good enough' for most of us here and Moroso's 8.8mm blue wires are pretty darn good too. There are others but those I just listed are what you'll see on about 95% of cars at the track.

If you're having problems with burning the boots, then you might either need different angled boots (like 135 compared to 90) or you could benefit from the kevlar boot protectors. On mine for example, I cut my MSD's to fit and have 5 multi-angle boots and 3 90 degree bend boots. It's just what worked with my headers. My old smallblock worked better with all 90 degree boots. I've seen a lot of big block guys and hooker headers that run straight boots. You want to prevent the boots from resting on the tubes if at all possible. Also, with the pre-cut kits, they usually have a few wires that are WAY too long. Also, everybody routes theirs just a little differently, hence why cut to fit is the best option IMO.

My accel wires melted during my break in procedure. THe wires were NOT touching the headers and neither were the boots. The boots got really crispy and just flaked apart when I removed them.

I melted/burned the boots and wires on 3 sets of MSD and Acel wires in two years. I even had jackets on them! The insulators cracked and the charge leaked to the headers.

I finally switched to Jacobs Pro Fit 8.5 wires with 90 deg. ceramic boots two years ago. I put the jackets on just to protect the wires. Absolutely no signs of heat stress.

I hate to say it but please swap the valve covers around!!! This drives me nuts when I see the LT1/L82 valve covers with the L on the R side and the R on the L side!

Well shoot I guess, I am going to have to live with this.... I just went back and look and it looks like the dipstick is on the R side... So ignore me...

I have the exact same MSD ones on my 79. They are loomed along the valve covers so they can't touch the headers. 6 months, and no problems.

I use Taylor 8.5mm 45 degree boots, the MSD multi-angles melted after vibrating around. But thats my set up, it took three sets of wires to find some that were perfect.

I GUESS it also matters what brand headers we are all using.
