Are you using a pickle fork? They are cheap at most parts stores and some even rent them for free.

Get it in there good, and give it a few good whacks. Also, tap the bulk of the rod end with the hammer...sometimes that impact will help shuttle the stud out.

Just get annother 3lb hammer, hold one hard against one side of the spindle next to the ball joint shaft and smak the other side with the other hammer, once or twice and it will fall apart. Use gloves and watch your fingers

You can buy a special puller tool from snap on tools that will press the buggers out. great tool. see your local snap-on dealer.

Picklefork on a pneumatic air hammer is really fast and easy but you gotta have the equipment.

Pickle forks are junk. Use the right tool, it looks like an "H" with a fork at one end and a bolt running between the legs of the "H" on the other. JC Whitney sells it for about $20.

I had trouble getting mine out too. I believe I used a ball joint and a tie rod pickle fork at the same time from opposite directions.

pickle forks work great if you don't care about destroying the ball joint. 4lb hammer and a few solid hits and out they come.

I couldn't get mine loose until I took off the lower arm, placed it securely on the floor, and whacked it a couple of times with an 8 lb sledge hammer.

Every ball-jointed axle I've ever worked on has had at least one joint that a pickle fork wouldn't bust loose. The "H" tool has never failed.

Is your jack under the a-arm?
If your stands are under the frame and the a-arm is hanging you will never get it to seperate. The spring is just forcing it back together unless the upper is already loose.
