I hooked up a new vacuum line all the way around. Headlights to carb and to switch and etc. Hooked it all up according to the headlight vacuum diagram I got from corvette-101.com.
When I pull the vacuum switch to get the headlights up they just sit there, but when I get alot of vacuum built up (about 4000 rpm) the DS headlight goes up on its own without me pulling the switch. I try to pull the switch and make the other light go up but nothing happens. Then I close the switch but the DS light stays up, I cant get it to go down unless I do it manually.
I know its all vacuum problems but can anyone help me out? I hooked it all up right and thought that would be good enough although it never is.
Its expensive for those actuators and other headlight parts. I know some guys who just open them manually or leave them up all the time.
PINA but they are only weekend warriors, not daily drivers..
Quick Check: Attach to free hoses to actuator. Blow in one and the headlight should move in one direction, blow in the other and it should have the opposite effect. Normally this is done with vacuum which would have the opposite actuation.
If you have no resistance and actuation in one direction, you might have a bad "witches hat" seal on around the actuator lever. This is under the acordian type dust boot.
Also I think I remember a problem with the diagram around the switch area. I'm not sure if it's that particular diagram or another. Do a search on the forum.

Got a GREAT laugh out of this post title ....There are also inexpensive new seals and rubber boots (Dr rebuild or others) that fixes a problem in one direction but not the other. I have lucked out and all of my headlight up/down issues have been fixed by putting in these new seal/boot repair kits (much less expensive than new actuators).

Glad you liked the title, I figured it would get me some looks
I think I will have to try the seals youre talking about, everyone so far gave great suggestions that I have now tried but to no avail. I will look into the seals/rebuild kits.
Thanks everyone.
