Another recommendation: Remove the sway bars for the track visit.. Removing the sway bars will help weight transfer!
It's only a few bolts and they can be re-installed in no time..

One thing I didn't see mentioned. I believe, the numerically smallest gear ratio for a Tom's 12 bolt rear end is 3.76:1. (That's what he told me - assuming that my memory is not failing.) That means that if you want to run long distances on the freeway comfortably, you need a overdrive transmission. So the only two available are either the Richmond 6 speed or the Tremac 5 (or perhaps 6 speed). Will these transmissions hold up in their lower gears if you intend to use maximum power for drag strip use?

Tremec 5-speeds are used in 9 second drag cars.. No problems there..

Thanks, I will post results Saturday. It is realy just intended to be a streat car with occasional track time. I would have went with a much more agressive cam otherwise.

I always un-hook the front sway bar.

It is a 3.73 : 1 and I have the TKO 600 in it.

I used the exact same tires with my old 383 + TKO 500 before I switched to ET Street bias-ply..

Best 60' time with them was 1.591 which was actually slightly better than with the ET Streets.
If the track is prepped right, they'll hook great but if the track is in bad shape, they tend to spin..

Just my 2 cents -

I was breaking half-shaft u-joints - 1 or 2 a year - while drag racing. Finally figured out that the squat of the car at launch was using up the range of motion of the u-joints and pulling them apart. Put in some big snubbers over the trailing arms to limit squat, No problems in 2 years.

I drag race (foot brake class) every weekend if possible.

74 Corvette 363ci, TH350, 28x12.5 ET Streets, 4.11 stock rear end. Best times - 7.06 1/8th mile at 96mph. 1.52 60ft.

Your setup looks pretty killer!!

Good luck.

Default Using Tom’s 12 bolt with 1480 half shaft

I purchased a complete setup of Toms for my 64 corvette. When installing the Toms 12 bolt with 1480 half shafts, did you have any modifications at the snubber mount area? I have very little clearance with the 1350 unversial joint. Do you still have pics
