If your driving and, say you run over a funny shaped rock, and it completely severs your rear brake line, do your front brakes still work, or vice-versa? Good to know, just installed new rear Calipers.

Before 1967 or so, Chevrolet used the single chamber master cylinders which were pretty dangerous compared to the dual chamber ones on the C3's.
If you had a line or brake cylinder let loose you lost all of your fluid and had no brakes.
With the newer dual system, you have a separate chamber for front and rear so if either fails the other will still work.
