I used to feel the same way and actually almost bought one....until I found out how much parts (& labor) are. If you think Corvette stuff is expensive just wait. Have you checked to see how much it is to R&R the transaxle on a 911? Check it out and you'll forget Porsche's forever. Unless you are a Porsche mechanic, have the $$$ to pay someone else MAJOR bucks to work on it or have the $$$ to buy a new one with warranty, get ready to take out a 2nd mortgage your house. IMHO, 911s are OK, 928s are crap. I would never sell a C3 for either.

I have had a couple of 928s. An S and an S4. Both where quick. I took the S4 to the strip and ran 13.7 at 102 with very little for mods (cat bypass and disconnected air pump). I also managed to go over 160.... They can be bought pretty cheap (compared to what they went for when new). Repair costs could kill you but they are extremely reliable. In comparison, I am paying more for my '71 vette than I did for my '87 928 S4.
My next project will be an earlier 928 (78-79) with a chevy conversion. There is a guy on the porsche list with a 540 BB in his 928. It's just for the strip and there is not much Porsche left in it but it is sweet!!
I have drive a few 911s but can't tell you much about them.

My Son has a 77 911 Porsche. They are nice they have a place on the road. :) Yes the parts are expensive, But he has a 911 that he hunted all over Canada for and got it off the orginal owner.

hehe after reading this thread I'm sure you guys will like this one ....
Might I suggest to the moderator to remove the censorship feature? or at least in the urls cause I had to copy that image from the original site cause it had the word "s h i t" in its url and would convert it to poopie...which would cause the url to be invalid.

Good choice. My 944 drives like it's attached to your mind. You just think about passing another car on the outside of a curve and it happens. My 2001 Miata is almost that good. My 1973 Corvette is a lot of fun to cruise around in though even if it's a little over weight compared to the others. The 944 weighs 2750lbs. and the Miata 2300lbs. The suspension on the 944 is just so much lighter.

Gee, I don't know. Getting a Porshe because it "performs" better than a Vette is like getting a Rice Rocket Cycle cause it "performs" better than a Harley. There's one thing you can't get from either "performer" and that is the pride of driving an American legend. Corvette is the great American Roadster and that Porshe is just not gonna give you that feeling. I looked long and hard after I sold mt C4 at both a Porshe 928 and 911 (particularly the 911) and when it finally came down to it I had stand back and say "hey, it's really just a Volkswagon". Nothing says Red White and Blue like Chevrolet Corvette. :flag

When I feel like I'm getting complacent, I'm gonna find a 911 turbo to scare the c**p out of me one more time. Fastest car I ever drove was 911 coupe a racer buddy of mine drives on the street. He uses a modified 956 3.2TT with factory watercooled heads. I was so far in over my head it wasn't even funny. If you live in the Cost Mesa area of LA, he drives this black beast and a old gray bathtub with a turbo six as well. DO NOT try this guy.

Saw this 911 at the 1999 Car Craft Nationals in Panama City Beach, Fl. As I recall he didn't do very well on the dyno even with what appears to be a blown mouse.
