Default Pitman arm/tie rod taper (Jim Shea?)

What's the taper of the steering link stud that attaches to the Pitman arm? Is it the standard 1.5"-ft. (approx. 7*) that GM used for tie rod ends?

I got a rather nasty surprise tonight - the A-body Pitman arm that's the right dimensions for the Jeep box steering conversion has a tapered hole that's much smaller than the stud on my manual steering link. Gotta fix this one somehow.

I had to call around a good bit to find a machine shop with the proper morse taper bit/reamer for making the adaptor block on my rack conversion, I used the stock tie rod ends...

I have the 7 degree taper reamer and just reamed mine out for a good fit. The reamer is not cheap, over $100 but I used it alot for fixing the bump steer.

Norval, thanks for the info. There's a guy with an eBay store that has the reamers for under $60. He sells a ton of them to the off-road guys. I wanted to make sure that that stud is the 7* taper and not something else.

If you can use a mill with it's slower speed, lots of cutting oil the reamer will last forever.

I'll either mount it in a very slow 1/2" drill, or just use a manual tap handle and take the slow road. I really don't want to remove the Pitman arm again - the first time was an absolute nightmare.
