The color is gone on my gas door emblem. I was thinking of ordering a replacement from Ecklers. On page 298, they have one for 50.99. Then below it they have one for 34.99 that says [correct red]. Does this make sense to anybody?
Re: Gas Door Emblem Question (foundvettelifeisgood)
The more expensive one is probably an original GM one, where the cheaper one is an updated "reproduction" one that looks closer to the original GM one than past repro ones.

Re: Gas Door Emblem Question (Paul Borowski)
The Last Detail has a front emblem for $21. No picture but for $21 looks great. I will order mine from TLD when I get mine painted.
BTW Good looking Foundvettelifeisgood.
They are fairly easy (and fun! :) ) to repaint/ restore. I redid the gas door emblem on my 68, got a little frustrated, ordered a new one, did a better job on my old one, and I think I currently have the repainted old one on the car and the new one in the garage. The emblem that was on the car when I bought it was not the original emblem anyway. Anyway, get a set of testors model paint and repaint yours yourself. MJ
I bought the testors paint and brushes for about $7 and had a lot of fun restoring the gas door emblem colors at my dining room table. It worked out so well that I pulled the nose emblem and did it too.
Great advise from the forum. :yesnod:
To anyone else considering this fix, the emblems are real easy to remove.
Re: Gas Door Emblem Question (foundvettelifeisgood)
Great to hear.
Make sure you have that nose emblem attached well though. When the previous owner put the nose emblem back on mine after painting the car, he didn't use the greatest adhesive (some black stuff). As a result, the emblem came off on the highway and hit the back deck on it's way out :cuss Some here have suggested two sided tape I believe.
