Default Delco PF1218 Oil Filters now PF454s

The 1218's held 1 quart of oil, the replacement 454 holds about 1/2 quart - same price! I just bought a bunch if 1218s. Does that mean with a 454 the car only takes 4 1/2 quarts of oil instead of 5 quarts? GM is really cheapening up their replacement parts and charging the same money! I totally unimpressed with GM!

I recently purchased some PF 1218's from Advance Auto. Several were
taller than the others. Apparently the newer ones are shorter, but
they are still available and appear to hold more oil than the old model
PF 25. Not sure where the PF 454 fits in the line.

If you check the Application Book, it lists the 454s for the C3s. I believe the 1218s while still on the shelves have been phased out. I prefer the larger capacity, so I bought a number of them while they were still available. All of mine are the same length.

...I also have some 1218 filters. Damn things look like a cheap Toyota import filter where the threads are. Don't have that "beefy, heavy" look to them on the block mating end.

...I've bought some of the old PF-35 filters, which have the "beefy" ends and they are exactly like the PF-25 filters, only taller.

...the cheapening of America continues...the mortgage crisis is only a sign of things to come...the end is nigh...

WIX still has a good 1 quart filter for our cars. I gave up on Delco when they miniaturized the 1218.

If the filters are really old the paper element could be falling apart. I've seen that happen to old oil filters. They could be worth nothing.

Mobil 1 M-302. This is the big filter for Chevy trucks. Holds a full quart.
