The quarterly auto flea market will be in Charlotte in January and I plan on purchasing my 4spd then. Thier is aguy that shows up for every show that sells completely rebuilt T10's for $700 and M21 for $650. Are these good/fair prices? Their is also a guy that comes out there that will put one together for you using your choice of gear ratio's but I don't know what he charges. I upgraded the rear end to a 3:70 and will be running a big block. Any suggestions on trannie gear sizes?
wade,
You NEED to know what you are looking at when it comes to a trans, many times they need MORE than a "rebuild kit" like gears! But most swap meet sellers do the bare minimum (and call it "rebuilt") and you might get stuck with a bad one. You need to look inside with a good flashlight (and walk if he says NO),look NOT at the big constant mesh gears (they usually look great), the little teeth next to the gears NEED to have sharp points just like the brass should have, you sometimes need to move the sliders to see these teeth and also look at the teeth on the brass, "sharp points" are good "rounded over" is bad. Most guys also sell on an "exchange" basis which means your core must look ok or it`s more money. Call this guy and get a price (you might even learn something) He builds the super T-10`s that go into my racer BUT call after 7pm central Eric at 262-942-8882

It will be held at the Metrolina fair grounds sometime in January but I am not sure of the date. They usually start advertising in the Metrolina Trading Post about 2 weeks prior. Most times there are not many if any corvette vendors or parts. This is mostly geared towards the Hot rod crowd. But there is usually a lot of nice cars and performance parts available. I usually enjoy it especially when I know I can buy something.
