I am going to be buying wheels for my 68 and have been trying to decide on the wheel size I want to go with. I like the 17 18 combo, but I also like the bigger sidewalls on the 16 or 17 inch wheels. I have heard people run 9.5 wheels with 4.5 backspacing all around. Would it be possible 16X9.5 with a 55 series tire or a 17X9.5 with a 50 series tire?

My front street tires are mounted on 4 inch BS 9X17 I have used the taller KDW 255/50/17 Right now I saved some $$ and mounted the 255/45/17 Kumho MX

4.5 BS and tall tires puts the sidewall into the frame on lock to lock.

I did mount some Goodyear F-1's on the rear years ago and they were something like 285/40/17. Nice diameter for the rear, just not enough tread on the ground

I do not want to run different wheel sizes, I want 16 or 17 inch wheels, not a combo of both. I want to run torq thrust II’s and they only make 17X9.5 with the correct lug spacing, not 16X9.5.

So I am basically wondering if it is possible to run 17x9.5 (4.5” BS) on the front with a 50 series tire?

No one makes tires to fit that rim with the taller sidewalls anyway...so I guess I will go with the 17 18 combo with c-5 size tires. Thanks for the input
