Default Puffs of black smoke

Hello guys, just had a new engine installed in my 81. All of a sudden with the car in park at about 900 rpms I give it a couple of quick revs and I get black smoke out of the drivers side side pipe. I ran my finger inside the pipe and sure enough its black soot. I have about 300 miles on new engine but never noticed that till yesterday. What the heck now?? Any help would be great Thanks Randy

Black smoke indicates excess fuel, blue is oil, and white is water.

I agree with Jud. You are running too rich. A simple carb adjustment should correct this.

remember, a cold engine needs to run a bit rich. This could simply be a choke adjustment or idle screws.Really, nothing to worry about.

Default Only drivers side?

Yep it's a rich mix from the carb. Hard to pinpoint over the internet were inside the carb. If u need a rebuild, lars on the corvette forum here has the best deal anywhere on the planet. For around $100 you get nothing but the best parts and experience. But i don't know if lars will fix an electric Qjet.
