Puffs of black smoke

Puffs of black smoke
Hello guys, just had a new engine installed in my 81. All of a sudden with the car in park at about 900 rpms I give it a couple of quick revs and I get black smoke out of the drivers side side pipe. I ran my finger inside the pipe and sure enough its black soot. I have about 300 miles on new engine but never noticed that till yesterday. What the heck now?? Any help would be great Thanks Randy

I agree with Jud. You are running too rich. A simple carb adjustment should correct this.

Only drivers side?
Yep it's a rich mix from the carb. Hard to pinpoint over the internet were inside the carb. If u need a rebuild, lars on the corvette forum here has the best deal anywhere on the planet. For around $100 you get nothing but the best parts and experience. But i don't know if lars will fix an electric Qjet.
