Default Rivets to use when replacing seatbelt reinforcement plate

I'm replacing the seatbelt reinforcement plates on the underside of my 73 vert. I noticed you can buy the factory aluminium rivets. My car isn't close to stock, so I'm not worries about keeping it as the factory made it, so what's the best option? What's easier and what's stronger? Factory aluminium rivets, or pop rivets? Stainless or aluminuim pop rivets?

I didn't really think about this until after I had drilled out the old rivets... and searching didn't bring up too much.

What do you guys think?

Cheers
Scott

Steel is stronger but harder to form than aluminum.

The main purpose of riveting it in place is to speed the assembly process. If you are not concerned with originality, just use the large diameter head aluminum pop rivets (1/2"-5/8"), with the head against the fiberglass.

I used the plastic "scrivets" when I replaced mine. It just needs to hold it in place while you attach the rest of the stuff.

Heavy-duty pop-rivets should work just fine. Select for proper material thickness of your parts stack.

I was able to obtain the proper size aircraft rivets when I replaced mine.

I forgot to add, if you use pop-rivets, use washers under the pulled side of the pop rivet, so you don't pull the rivet through the fibre-glass.

^^^ That was one thing that crossed my mind. I wouldn't want them to pull through.

Thanks for the info.
