Mobil 1 or Lucas

Mobil 1 or Lucas
I am ready to pack my rear wheel bearings. Went to the local auto parts store to purchase a tube of Mobil 1 (gun) grease. The store does not sell Mobil 1 and their suggestion was to use Lucas X-TRA HEAVY DUTY Wheel Bearing Grease (made in USA). I have read where some use Mobil 1 and a very well known rebuild company also uses Mobil 1. Not wanting to go out of town to get Mobil 1 I bought the Lucas but just can’t bring myself to use it without the forum members blessing. The can of Lucas reads like a “Who’s Who” of bearing grease. Should I put some gas in the old truck and head out on the open road in search of a tube of Mobil 1?

I'm definitely a mobil 1 snob, but Lucas is a good company too. I wouldn't have a prob using Lucas wheel bearing grease. Get it done and go to the next project.

I've never liked Mobil 1 very much. Lucas has been around the big rig market for a zillion years. I was a service manager for a while and used Lucas with VERY good results. Opinons are like a$$holes, everybodys got one, they all stink!!!!!! My .02 worth

powered grease guns like I use on trucks, Wheel bearing grease comes in a tub
a whole lot thicker.

i dont know if its thicker or not, but it does come in a tub. i picked up a thing of mobil 1 synth (red stuff) at autozone. it was enough to completly pack both rear wheelbearings, and maybe enough for the fronts when i get to them.

18 wheelers don't use wheel bearing grease but Lucas brand is used for other things around trucks has a good reputation, I would not lose any sleep over Lucas or Mobil.

"I have never seen wheel bearing grease put in anything but a plastic tub around the size of the butter tubs you buy at stores".
Years ago I use to buy wheel bearing grease in metal cans. I have a partial can of Valoline WBG in a metal can in the garage now. I am new to the Mobil 1 scene. I asked for Mobil 1 and was asked how many quarts. I was uncertain about gun grease on wheel bearings but thought maybe the new stuff was ok to use. Thanks so much for all the good information. I will have the wife stop at AutoZone and see if they have Mobil 1 for wheel bearings.

Lucas and Mobil-1 are both great products. Personally, I only use Mobil-1 products since I also own Exxon/Mobil stock !! But I wouldn't have a problem using Lucs products from a technical standpoint.
Oh..., BTW, Lucas is a Canadian company even though the grease may be made in USA (thought you'd want to know).
