Default Finally crossed over to the point of no return...PICS

Well, not really...

Everything I have done to my matching numbers (yawn) 72 SB auto coupe, so far, has been completely reversible...ZZ4, 2004R, VBP suspension, L88 hood, Hooker side exhaust...Well I really like the look and sound of those sidepipes!! The wife thinks they are going to be too loud (another yawn)...so after thinking long and hard, I decided to glass in the rear valence and cover the stock exhaust exit holes. Sorry Honey, no going back now!!!!

Now to get it sanded and filled so as not to look like crap!!!

I did the same thing on the 68. So when I get stopped I can say it was originally a side pipe car. Yes I know 68's didn't have them from the factory but hopefully the man/woman with the ticket book won't know that!

That is EXACTLY what I did. From Mid America. It fit SO POORLY that I couldnt use it, without MAJOR mods . Problem is, I bought it over a year ago, and figured they wouldn't take it back. Anyway, I cut the ears off the replacement and glassed them in to fill the holes. I think it was ultimately LESS WORK to use my original, that fit perfectly, and just glass in the exhaust openings. AND, to be honest, the grinding, bonding and glassing was pretty easy. Either way, I was still going to have to do the finish work to make it look good.

Default There is no "point of no return" . . .

..."no going back now" ...? Who says?
Our '68 had had this exact mod done back in the early '70s. Had aftermarket side pipes on it when we bought it. It had been done really well and looked great that way.
But when we restored the car I simply got out my coping saw and cut the cutouts back in where they belonged. It was a piece of cake and required no repainting! I just cut it out and mounted the new chrome bezels. Done.
So, I say kudos to you for doing this. Makes me crazy to see rear cutouts on a car with side pipes. And hey, you've burned no bridges here.
Enjoy!
