Stan's headers
I'm finally getting my heads and cam project going on my 79 L82 and I'm on the fence about headers. I remember way back when the Tri-Y design was what everybody was running because it supposedly worked. Stan's is the only manufacturer I can find that still makes this design but they are pricey. $848 with ceramic coating which I think would be a must do because of the heat. Anybody have experience with Stan's products?
Anybody have another recommendation or should I just stay with the stock cast iron rams horns?

My 79L82 First Got Hedman 1 5/8th headers with true full dual exhaust system with a H pipe. Then hooker SC and 3 inch pipes. Now 1 7/8th SS

Even though these are a bit big at 1 7/8" on the primaries for a 350, it's hard to beat the price. I read several threads where the build quality is very good....I just orderd a set

Bump to the top. Anybody else? Stan's Tri-Y are expensive but that's the direction I'm leaning.

Stans is a local shop here. They are the best there is around here. Quality is top notch. I am going to take my truck there for a new 5" system. In the 50s and 70s when we were all doing engine swaps we would take them there for custom headers. They would be perfect no matter how tight you shoe horned something in there. I had a small block 400 in a Opel GT. He made some for that.

Not local to me, but I too wanted to try the tri-y style for the potential mid range torque increase all the engineers have been singing the praises of since the mid 60s. (I only have 355 ci) Stan's were the most recommended. So I popped for the $$$. I don't have my engine running yet, but I can confirm the superb build quality. They are the best built set I have ever owned. I hope they do what I wanted for the torque below 5500 rpm, as I don't intend on drag racing THIS car.

The primaries are big at 1 7/8 inches but for my motor I noticed a BIG change in power going from Shorties to these LTH's.

I was in San Jose last week so I drove up to Sanderson's shop in South San Francisco to look at their headers and came home with these
The quality is very impressive, everything is built right there in their shop. 16 ga. tubing, 3/8" laser cut flange and the welds are very nicely done, not like some of the cheap Chinese crap I have seen. I got the silver ceramic coating and they gave me a very good price on them, much better than ordering. They included collectors, bolts and even a tube of silicone caulk which they recommend instead of a gasket.
My project is slowly coming together.

The Tri-Ys look nice and like the thick flange plate. If you go with Stage 8 header bolts, you will never have to worry about the bolts backing out or exhaust leaks at the head.

Wow, that is very cool! Do you have Pictures of the Motor sitting in the small engine compartment? Did you not get any thermal issues? I am very interested, the car must have been a rocket since the Opel GT is has a low curb weight.

I reverted back to manifolds on my 79 4-speed after running full length headers for a few years. However, I used Speedway Smoothie manifolds because they have a 2.5 inch outlet to match the Corvette Central 2.5 inch exhaust I had. I was able to use a 2.5 inch heat riser spacer and 2.5 inch downpipes from a 64-65 Corvette and everything lined up perfectly. I'm not sure if it will work on a car with an automatic, though.
Just figured I'd give that info if it will help connect those shorties to the rest of your exhaust

What outlet size are they?

How they can sell them for that low price is beyond me unless they bought out the rest of the first production run and they aren't making them anymore and just trying to get of the stock they have.
I hope they are still making them as it took the better part of a year to get them to market. You will not ever find a better set of headers for your C3.
Here's some pics of the prototype to the final polished version. Note the dates on the pics, one year to do this. I actually hope they are still making them.
First working prototype that fit my C3 perfect
Finished product ready for market.

Motorhead,
Are you sure that the "Huronspeed" headers are the same than yours? I believe the "Huronspeed" are made in China like the XS headers / sidepipes. I might be wrong...

Is "Huron" a only Chinese product supplier? I might be totally wrong. I am mostly concerned about conistent Quality and perfect fittment. Did yours fit perfect, or did you have to bent and dent them in certain places?

Drivers side fit perfectly...Passenger side I decided to very slightly (I mean very slightly) dent the #6 primary to clear the idler. Might have cleared the idler without denting but I wanted a little more clearance.. Installed I have at least 1/2-3/4 inch now. I prefitted both sides BEFORE I had them ceramic coated....went right in when back from the coating...
