1970 Pertronix ignition install
Instructions read that if power wire to coil has inline resistor ( I believe it does), you should bypass and install direct wire to ignition switch.
Is this necessary, and easily done?

Yes, it is necessary...
I think the easiest way is to use the IGNITION terminal in the fuse box ( above the brake pedal ) with a new wire from there...
Or you can use the old power wire to coil to just activate a relay, and take +12V power from the horn relay ( with an inline fuse for instance ) for your new distributor.

very easily done.
large pink wire in the fuse box is the igntion wire.
you can tap directly into that.
mine has been run from this pink wire for a long time like a lot of other peoples here. there are plenty of holes in the firewall to push a wire through. just find a rubber grommet and push,
or the yellow wire going to the wiper motor can be used to power a relay and then go straight from the lug on the alternator,
