Default C2 with C3 Rearend

I got a question about my car (bought it 1 year ago). Bare with me because I'm no corvette expert...1 year rookie.

I've got a 64 convertible..resto-mod. 418 HP ZZ4 EFI engine, with a level 3 Gear Star 4L60 trany, and a 82 vette aluminum rearend. Front suspension has the VBP performance Plus package, and on the back I have their dual mount mono-spring. Shocks are Koni Classic gas adustables on front and Delco gas on back.

So here's are my questions.....

> Is there a big difference between my 82 rearend/suspension and a C4?

> Is the 82 rearend considered an improvement over previous C3 rearend? (obvious weight reduction)

My car was done 14 years ago. Today, a C2 resto mod would normally have C4 (or some with C5) suspension with an aftermarket frame. I've got somewhat of an hybrid. I'm really trying to understand what I've got.

Thanks, Chris

The 82 is not an improvement over the 63-79 iron units, in fact it's much weaker and limited to a very few improvement upgrades compared to the iron units. An iron unit with yokes and cover weights 100 lbs.

First off, what you have is a VERY desirable car, the cars of that vintage need serious updating, and from what you say, it seems fine to me.....so far...

are they DISC brakes?? '64 was last year for all drums, I would assume do what with the rest of the mods....is the brake booster a Hydroboost or vacuum, if you have one...how about the steering? stock or modified??

can you photo the thing and post somewhere...love to see various aspects of the installs....

the '82 rear is looked at as weaker than the earlier C3 rears, but for you purposes, long as you don't drag race it with slicks a lot, it's fine....it is unique in design from 80-82 vettes, it will not interchange with much of anything from a C4 the entire setup is different....it CAN be done, but like anything else, welding and fab work.....

mind saying what you gave for the car??

mrvette..... PS & 67 style disc all around with vaccum. Here are some pics.

I'm currently putting C5 sport seats in it. I'm considering other mods to improve drive and handling. Maybe R&P steering, different shocks???

why you got a nice classic interior, go original. Or at list save the old ones just if you get tired of the new ones and prefer to go back to original

The rear end on C-3s are 3 link type, and the C-4 has a true 4-link suspension. They are completely different in design. By the way, LOVE the car!

Thanks for the comments. I plan to keep my C2 seats with the ability to swap them out if/when I want.

Sweet ride, Don't let the wife drive it, or she will be hit on a LOT....

I would keep the seats inside or in the basement at least, so the covers stayed nice....

on the r/p steering / H boost installs we can do a email or PM about it.....long conversations....

Nice ride.
WHich intake do you have on the car?? Outside shot with hood up shows a TPI manifold while 1st engine shot looks like a SFI LT1 intake.

Az....Intake is the TPI Miniram. I had it powder coated "black chrome". The photo with the hood open is my previous engine that I just replaced. It was a 89 vette 5.7L TPI setup. Nice engine until it gave out on a 1/4 mile run.

Here's a close up of the new intake.

and here with cold air induction

mr...I look you up if I go any further on brake or steering upgrades.
