Default 68 Vette over heating

I have a 68 vette roadster and back in Octboer drove it from Klamath Falls or to Portland, about a 5 hr drive. Had not problems. But on the return trip made it about 1 hr and it over heated and lost oil pressure. had it towed to a shop and they could find nothing wrong. it ran with no issues. Trailered it home anyhow. Haven't had much time to look at it since. Any ideas as to why this might have happened? Thanks for any ideas.

Low oil level can cause both a drop in oil pressure and overheating as friction builds up.

I would suggest an oil change, make sure your level is topped off, check old oil for metal or coolant, and go for a spirited test drive.

Simple stuff first: Low coolant, fan clutch, stuck thermostat

I will check all that stuff when I get a chance. Might do a radiator flush also.

Default To Flush or Not to Flush

Flushing the radiator may be a good idea but I find it a stretch that it would suddenly cause a thermal shift that caused over heating and low oil pressure. Clogged radiator is more a slower, long term issue. You may want to do the oil change and test drive before the radiator flush to see if the problem still is there or has cleared up. You can always flush the radiator later.

Well, the temperature needle spiked, not all of a sudden and the oil pressure light came on...Wasn't paying much attention to it till the oil lite came on...

So will change the oil and at least check the fluid level...and if it looks old change it and the thermostat since they do go bad just because and take it on a nice drive with some hills and things...that stuff is easy to do...

Have you ever put an OBD II reader on any car? It might tell you that you have a TPS that has a code. That doesn't mean the TPS is bad, it's only a reading that tells you something in that circuit is bad. Low oil pressure/level may well not be your problem at all. Don't look at the result, look for the problem. I'm not there, I didn't see what happened, think back and give us all the info you can remember, we might just hit on something to fix it!!
