Thanks for this thread. Very informative. I, like others here, need to do this on my 72 but have been putting it off. I have all the materials but lack the stones to get to it. I worry about cracking the body and such.
Some questions if I may:
- Great pictures on lifting the body with a 2x6. Is this a two person job?? How is the nose lifted when one side of the body is coming up?? How did you support it?? I have some road rash cracks as it is and definately don't need any more.
- Did you use grade 8 bolts?? Is this strength required??
- Is there a torc spec for these bolts??

My son helped me. It goes much better with two people. I'm not familiar with the nose on the 72, it is probably different than my 82 on how it attaches to the front bumper support. I wish I could be more helpful in that regard.
I used grade 8 bolts. They came from Zip Corvette as a kit. I also bought some grade 8 bolts which were slightly longer for the # 4 and # 5 mounts. The kit was about 150.00

I could not find any torque specs. So I used my air ratchet to about 45 ft/lbs then a hand torque wrench set to 75ft/lbs (just guessed). I'm sure there are some more knowledgeable people on this than me.
When you raise one side at a time, just go very slow and watch/listen to make sure nothing is cracking, breaking, pulling etc. Remember you only need to raise it about 3-4 inches to change the cushion.

The write up on http://www.europeancorvette.com/html...eplacement.htm is great! I used it on my 72. Double check all frame to body attachments. I personally forgot a front bumper brace, luckily no damage.

You will have to cut the head off and pull the rest out after you get the body up in the air. The nut is held by two flanges that have bent enough to allow the nut to spin.

Ok so then what do you do to get the nut out of the frame? How do you put another nut back in it? How high does the body have to come off in order to get at it?

Rudolph,
First great work yourself on your own car. Thank you also for the care you took to document and share everything you accomplished. Picture is worth 1000 words and all that.
You are a good man. Thank you.

Look at this pic of Rudolph's...
It's a captive nut that you have now "liberated". Once you lift the body, you'll be able to get a wrench on the nut. But in order to fix it, you're in for a bit of welding.

If your car is rusty, more drastic measures may have to be taken.
Also, you may want to invest in a new bracket for the rear mount if yours is rusted.

The pictures dont give the whole story? How high off the frame do you need or can you lift the body. how do you get your hands in there to get the mounts off? Not a lot of room to work here. i get the feeling that the body will need to be completely lifted to this properly.

Are there 2 more mounts under the nose somewhere that need to be removed as well before i attempt to lift the body? i downloaded the install instructions today from Ecklers, and they dont show any nose mounts? I think i will wait till i get the hood and the motor out of the car before i go any further.
